Nosh & Quaff Review

27/08/2015
Hey dolls! I'm back with another restaurant review and today I'm going to be talking about Nosh & Quaff which is a newly opened lobster and beer restaurant in Birmingham City Center which is a similar concept to the Burger & Lobster restaurant but slightly cheaper. I visited Nosh & Quaff last Saturday evening with my partner in crime and it was very easy to find on Birmingham's Colmore Row which is quite a well known street in Birmingham. Upon arrival we were swiftly greeted by very friendly and polite staff and were shown to our table which was on the first floor and as we walked to our table I noticed the decor which was quite simplistic yet striking and I particularly liked the exposed brick walls, wide windows and metal panels which gave the place a modern but edgy industrial vibe. We were sat by a table with a window view overlooking Victoria Square's Town Hall and I must say the backdrop was perfect for a date night if you ever wanted to come here with your other half.

After a few minutes looking over the menu which is very simple by the way; a member of staff came to take our drinks order and we ordered a bottle of still mineral water for the table and I had a large glass of rose whilst my other half had a strawberry flavoured lemonade which was rather refreshing.

It was not long after our drinks had arrived that someone was with us to take our food order and I really wanted to try the lobster but having not tried it before I chickened out and we both ended up going for the burger which promised a coarse cut, dry aged, naturally reared beef burger in a buttermilk bun served with a smoked paprika mayonnaise, caramelised onions and pickles with a fresh salad on the side as well as a side of salted hand cut fries. We also ordered an extra side which was the macaroni and cheese with chives because I love me some mac & cheese.

The food looked very tasty when it came and it certainly didn't disappoint on taste! You guys know that burgers are my absolute favourite food and I requested mine medium just how I like it and my other half had his well done and I must say both burgers were perfectly cooked! The burger was so tasty and peppery and went so well the caramelised onions and spicy mayo and I must say the buttermilk bun was also nice and you could tell it was fresh because it did not crumble and disintegrate whilst you ate the burger. The menu said the burger came with a side salad but I guess that was missing on our particular visit because we got a quarter of a pickle instead but I wasn't complaining because I actually adore pickles. The chips were also very tasty but a very small portion and I could have personally done with a bit more but I must say the burger and macaroni and cheese which was sooooo good by the way definitely made up for it and we were both so full by the end of our meal. If you ever visit Nosh & Quaff treat yourself to a side of creamy cheesy mac & cheese, it was seriously so good!

Despite being so full and needing to unzip my dress at this point, I still ordered a dessert because I wanted to get more of a feel for the items on the menu and I went for the creamy New York style blueberry cheesecake whilst my partner in crime tried out the rocky road on the recommendation of one of the staff members. The presentation of the desserts I must say was very lacking and both were served up in what looked like dog bowls which I personally wasn't feeling but I'm guessing it was all to tie into the whole industrial theme of the place? The cheesecake was a bit disappointing because I was looking forward to a good honest cheesecake with a biscuit base and cream cheese filling but instead I got a deconstructed version which was very heavy on the cream cheese and had some type of crumb on top which tasted more like granola. The blueberries tasted good and weren't too sharp and the dessert was pleasant enough but just wasn't to my particular taste and I didn't end up finishing it but that was more to do with the fact that I was already quite stuffed. I tasted a bit of my other half's rocky road which was also good but nothing special in my opinion and I'm not particularly a fan of very chocolatey desserts so I found the chocolate a bit too rich and quite heavy after the meal we had just had. My other half agreed with me and although he enjoyed it and thought it was pleasant enough his mind wasn't blown and he too didn't finish it.

All in all I was very impressed with our main meals and the fantastic service at Nosh & Quaff and I liked how simple and uncomplicated the menu was. I will definitely be returning to try out the apple dog and the lobster of course but I don't think I'll be ordering a dessert again unless something new pops up on the menu because the other dessert which is a sharing sundae did not get a raving review from a friend of mine who tried it when she visited. Our total bill came up to £54 pound including drinks and I think this is a great price for what we had! Have any of you guys tried out Nosh & Quaff? What did you think? Toodles!
