Power dressing has come a long way. From the old and drab matronly navy suits women would wear to the office in the 90s to chic wide leg suits and pastel coloured blazers we see around today. Better still, power dressing has been shaken up and modernised and is no longer embodied by “the suit” or confined to the office. Power dressing is now exuded by confidence and can be worn pretty much anywhere you damn well please.
Back in the day the concept of power dressing was for women to assert their authority in their predominantly male work-environments. They had to be covered up, serious and heavens forbid a woman look sexy - all in the hopes of being taken equally as serious as their male counterparts. Yes this patriarchal way of thinking and existence is still around today unfortunately,  but more and more we’re seeing women power dress for themselves. Their working wardrobe is no longer an armour but is now more than that. It’s an extension of personality, an ode to fashion and let’s not forget an excuse for a weekly shopping trip duuhh. And ladies this applies whether you work in a traditional work environment or are a fully fledged GIRL BOSS!
I’m obsessed with the power dressing trend that has carried over from autumn/winter into spring/summer and as you can see not all suits are made equal. For this post I’m rocking a checked suit from LOTD which is uber relaxed but still means business. I wore this outfit on International Women’s Day a few weeks back and I felt so bad-ass and powerful as I walked up and down the aisles at work. Nothing has ever embodied my personality more. A little bit serious, a touch of femininity, comfortable, trendy and tonnes of fun and interest all wrapped into one. I could have taken this to the next level with some heels and a handbag but I stayed true to me and opted for man-repelling FILA Disruptor II trainers, *cat-eye sunnies from The Accessories Bureau and a bright red Kipling Global *City Pack backpack to show that power dressing isn’t a set of rules and regulations but an attitude.
I encourage you all to show off your personalities and power-dress to the nines whether you prefer a brightly coloured suit, a floral number or a clueless inspired checked blazer paired with some jeans and trainers. The only rule is that you bring your confidence and own the look as you sashay to the shops, office or to that lunch date with your girl friends yaaasss.
What do you think of the power-dress trend?

Also how amazing is the lipstick I have on in these pics? It's in the shade *Rosy Outlook and is from Mark Epic which is exclusively available at Avon. I love that this range of lipsticks are not only affordable but is also as good in quality as many popular high street brands. Great colour pay-off, built-in lip primer for long wear and a stunning range of colours- I mean what more can one want?! I know a £4.50 price tag showing that it's cool to be savvy when shopping beauty.
I recommend giving these lippies a try and I promise you; you won't be disappointed!

[…] of them anytime soon. I absolutely love my checked suit from LOTD which you would have seen in a previous post but I had to add another co-ord to my wardrobe in the form of this Monki number. It’s absolutely […]
