Why Every Woman Needs A Suit This Spring (And Beyond)

06/04/2023

Elevated basics are all the rage as a trend this spring and summer and what's more elevated than a suit? Absolutely nothing that's what! Especially if the suit fits like a glove and is styled to perfection.

I recently invested in The Frankie Shop Bea Blazer* and Trousers* in a lovely forest green and I must say it's one of the best decisions I've made so far this year. I love the oversized fit of the blazer and the high waisted rise of the trousers but I appreciate this is not everyone's taste. There are so many different styles and colours out there and everyone is guaranteed to find the suit that's right for them. With that being said, why does every woman need a suit this spring (and beyond)? Read on to find out!

Suits make you look instantly put together

Whether you're pairing your suit with a shirt and loafers or a t-shirt and trainers, suits instantly make you look put together. This can be a huge confidence boost and a reason why a suit is a go-to for days when you want to look like you made an extra effort. Suits also work well for those 'I don't have anything to wear moments' because you already have a ready-made outfit that works every time.

Suits are functional and timeless

Beyond the style side of things, suits are the ultimate style-meets-function two peice. Not only do they look chic but they're practical for the spring in-betweeny weather. You know the one I mean, when it's not quite warm enough but not quite cold enough either. You can sport the whole suit when it's a bit chillier but then take off the blazer when the weather picks up.

Suits can also be very timeless especially when you opt for styles and colours that are not trendy and that work for your wardrobe all year round. If you're looking for all year round colours then black or camel would be the go-tos. If you love colour, then colours like this rich forest green which pair well with neutral colours can also work all year round. There's no rules however, so feel free to go all out with colour and pick what suits you and your wardrobe.

Suits are versatile

A common misconception is that suits are for the workplace, or a business environment but this is not the case. Suits can be so versatile and with the right styling they can work for a many situations - business meeting? Pair with a crisp white shirt and loafers. Casual shopping day? Wear with a white tee and trainers. Date night? Throw in a lacey bodysuit and swap your flats for heels. Boozy brunch? Go topless or braless for a major fashion statement. Just make sure you have plenty of fashion tape at the ready to avoid nip slips.

You can also break up your suit and wear it as separates. Blazers are a must have item and with a blazer alone you can make lots of different outfits. Similarly, with the trousers alone you create outfit after outfit that has a different feel each time.

I love to pair my blazer with simple jeans and t-shirt looks to elevate them and I also love throwing my blazer over my shoulders when wearing a slinky slip dress for that effortless cool look. Trousers are a great alternative to jeans and your suit trousers can really work for you! I love to pair mine with a bandeau, sandals, oversized sunglasses and a basket bag for an easy spring summer look. In the colder months I lswap the bandeau for a cardigan and my sandals for a pair of ankle boots - the sunglasses stay, sun or no sun!

I hope I've managed to convince you to bring out that suit you've had stashed away in the back of your wardrobe. And if you don't have one, maybe I've convinced you to add one to your spring (and all year) wardrobe. Remember to go for a colour and cut that keeps with your personal style. One that will work with other items in your wardrobe. Also don't feel compelled to shop new, check out local charity shops, Ebay and Vinted for some amazing bargains!
